i recently saw this, and really liked it. besides christopher doyle's great cinematography, it really reminded me of a WKW film in terms of the unrequited nature of the characters' relationship. i also picked up the soundtrack (very ambient, poignant) and am listening to it now.
did anyone else see this? would love to hear your comments :)
btw, one of the characters i really enjoyed in 2046 was carina lau's Mimi - i think her character is the same/very similar to her character in days of being wild. true? if so, it makes me wonder if WKW is a fan of jacques demy, who had the same kind of character references across two different films (Lola, who is the principle in the film of the same name, and referenced in Umbrellas of Cherbourg).

Re: last life in the universe - comments?
Fri, January 27, 2006 - 7:21 PMLoved this film. I thought it was one of the best films of that year. Loved the dreamlike quality, and the ambiguous ending. And Tadanobu Asano was terrific. You can see my (and a couple of others') full review here: www.chlotrudis.org/movies/r...ast.html. I'm Michael.
